COVID-19 Cricket Scotland club update, 2 November 2020

Today Cricket Scotland received clarification from sportscotland of the new tiered local area protection levels and how this impacts cricket activity.  A new guidance document has been published on the Cricket Scotland COVID website here and I have attached a grid which explains the impact to adult and under 18 cricket activity dependent on the local area protection level.  Please direct any questions on the new guidance, by email, to: general@cricketscotland.com

Gordon Blackwood, Lennox CC

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Gordon Blackwood. A former member of Lennox CC in the 1960s and 1970s, Gordon umpired with his friend Tom McCara for many years in the Glasgow League and was described by Derek Neil from Irvine CC as “A true friend of cricket in the west”.  Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

Prestwick CC sponsored walk on behalf of the Brain Tumour Charity

A terrific effort!

Walkers from Prestwick Cricket Club covered a total of 1,117 miles on behalf of the Brain Tumour Charity raising in the process £3,000 with hopefully a top up to take it to £4,000.  Prestwick CC thank everyone of their members who participated, and especially all clubs, members and people who donated to this cause.

Covid 19 Cricket Scotland club update, 10 September 2020

Please see below the most recent update from Cricket Scotland.

“Following yesterday’s Scottish Government announcement, Cricket Scotland has engaged with sportscotland to determine any changes required to our current guidance.

“We are pleased to announce that outdoor cricket guidance has not been affected by yesterday’s announcement and the guidance issued on 24th August remains current.

“Cricket Scotland plans to issue guidance for indoor activity in the near future. Indoor activity is more complicated, particularly in terms of group numbers permitted to play as this will vary and will be dependent on the type and size of the indoor facility.

“Thank you for your patience and please continue to enjoy cricket activity whilst staying safe.”

“Please could you remove timhart@cricketscotland.com and my work number (07825-172346) from your contact lists – and add Head of Development Nicola Wilson (nicolawilson@cricketscotland.com and 07891-408915) as your new first point of contact for Cricket Scotland.

“I have always felt a great sense of pride to work for Cricket Scotland – and I would like to thank all of you for your support of me, of cricket and of Cricket Scotland during my time with the organisation.”

Prestwick CC – Sponsored walk on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity

Great to see the members of Prestwick CC supporting this great charity. Please see info on the sponsored walk they are undertaking and it would be great if cricket fans in the west help out where they can.

‘Thanks for showing an interest in sharing our current charity walk. Below gives info on our aims. We are planning to collectively walk 1000 miles in two weeks. Monday 31st August to Monday 14th September.

“We have had a great start in our charity challenge.  As such we have decided to walk that little bit further, 1,000 miles!  We will walk the distance to various cricket grounds throughout the UK, including Meikleriggs where we won the CSL Grand final three years ago today.  We have 27 members taking part in the challenge and they would like to thank all those who have donated so far. We are 33% of the way to our target.  For those that wish to donate to the cause please follow the link below.”

Greenwood Cup 2019 – Final – Victoria v Dean Park

Those of you with good memories will remember that the Greenwood Cup final of 2019 was ever played due to poor weather. Both clubs agreed to have another go at it again last night at Titwood. Unfortunately the weather won again and no play was possible.

As there is no likelihood of the game being played safely again this season the WDCU CMC has declared that Victoria and Dean Park will be joint winners of the 2019 Greenwood Cup.
