This is just a short note to confirm that the Western District Junior Cricket Union (“WDJCU”) AGM will be held through Zoom on Sunday, 20 December, starting at 7pm. Signing-in details for the meeting will follow from WDJCU.
Neil Cauldwell the secretary of the newly formed Cricket Scotland Match Officials Association (“CSMOA”) has produced their first newsletter. Please see it attached below.
The WDCU AGM was held by Zoom meeting last evening. It was terrific that we had such a good turn out with 24 member clubs and organisations being represented and the Zoom technology working well.
Chair Mark Colman welcomed all to the meeting and noted that office bearer reports had been circulated in advance.
Duncan Paterson , Vice Chair and Chair of CMC and Keith Young, Treasurer were re elected to the WDCU Executive. Tim Hart takes up the post of WDCU Secretary for the first time.
Jim Hill and Stephen Allison were re elected to the CMC and both committees are at full capacity.
The proposed changes to the constitution were passed and an updated copy of the constitution will be posted on the website shortly.
The major concern of the evening was regarding the effect Covid 19 had on cricket in 2020 and the high level of challenge that it will present for the 2021 season. Duncan Paterson indicated that competition planning was underway and that the CMC would devise a number of scenarios for the 2021 season which will be shared with clubs as early as possible. He acknowledged that a flexible approach by all will be necessary and he urged clubs to keep the WDCU updated on any change to their circumstances.
Neil Cauldwell the new secretary of the recently launched Cricket Scotland Match Officials Association (CSMOA) gave an outline of the new associations purpose which was well received by the attendees.
Should anyone have any questions regarding the AGM please send them to me at admin@wdcu.co.uk
The WDCU AGM will be held on Wednesday, 9 December at 7pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the meeting will be held by Zoom. Clubs are reminded that they are required to register their representative with the WDCU administrator no later than Monday 7 of December.
It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of Leslie Ingram-Brown and Arthur Pryde. Both men were stalwarts of the game in the west, and contributed hugely to their clubs over a long number of years. Both were avid spectators in their later years and were often seen at grounds throughout the west enjoying games. Our thoughts are with their families at this sad time.
Please see below information on a survey being carried out by the Scottish Government. I would strongly urge all clubs to complete it where possible.
The Scottish Government Health and Sport Committee is looking into the impact of COVID-19 on sport in the community. They have launched an online survey to be completed by sporting organisations, sports clubs and venues to inform the committee about the impact COVID-19 has had on the: ability of sporting organisations to provide community based activities and initiatives; the financial impact; and the potential long term impact. The survey can be found here and the deadline for return is Friday 7 December.
Please see most recent update from Cricket Scotland that has been sent to all clubs. The guidance comes into effect later today.
“Following yesterday’s announcement by the Scottish Government, additional guidance has been issued on the Cricket Scotland website here.
“The main updates concern competition and travel as follows:
“Competition
Level 0 to 2: Competition is permitted between a maximum of two clubs at any one time subject to travel restrictions and the specific venue regulations on maximum numbers
Level 3: Competition is permitted between a maximum number of two clubs at any one time for under 18s only, subject to travel restrictions and the specific venue regulations on maximum numbers
Level 4: No competition is permitted indoor
“Coaching
Level 0 to 2: Coaching is permitted
Level 3: One to one coaching is permitted for Adults (maximum of two people). Coaches may travel outside their local area to coach one to one with someone based in another local area. Group coaching for under 18s is permitted indoor and outdoor.
Level 4: No indoor coaching is permitted. Coaching outdoors is permitted
“Please also remember for areas that have moved in Level 4, no indoor cricket is permitted. Outdoor organised cricket activity is still permitted subject to physical distancing and with a maximum of 30 in total.”
Today Cricket Scotland received clarification from sportscotland of the new tiered local area protection levels and how this impacts cricket activity. A new guidance document has been published on the Cricket Scotland COVID website here and I have attached a grid which explains the impact to adult and under 18 cricket activity dependent on the local area protection level. Please direct any questions on the new guidance, by email, to: general@cricketscotland.com
It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Gordon Blackwood. A former member of Lennox CC in the 1960s and 1970s, Gordon umpired with his friend Tom McCara for many years in the Glasgow League and was described by Derek Neil from Irvine CC as “A true friend of cricket in the west”. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
