As we are now into August that means we are nearing the end of the season where Champions will be identified and promotion and relegation will be decided from all our league competitions.
Given that we have been using our new system WDCU Live to administer our leagues this year and it is new to all of us could I ask that all clubs check the results and points gained in all the Saturday, Sunday and Evening League matches. It is really important that these are all up to date and correct. One of the big issues appears to be the entry of bonus points so please pay particular attention to that.
If there are any errors or issues please highlight them to me and I will take the appropriate action. Could I ask that this is done no later than Wednesday, 17th August please so that we go in to the last two weekends of Saturday League cricket bang up to date.
Three of our four cup finals have been contested, and our congratulations go to the winners:
Rowan Cup – M8 Driving Ferguslie
Western Cup – Titwood
Greenwood Cup – Partick
The one remaining final – the McCulloch Cup – will be contested between Clydesdale CC and McCrea FS West of Scotland at 1pm on Sunday, 21st August at Titwood. Finally our congratulations go to Ayr CC who have reached the final of the Scottish Cup where they will take on Forfarshire on 28th August at Goldenacre.
The final of the Greenwood Cup was held at Albert Park on Sunday, 7th July, where Partick secured a clinical victory against Glasgow opponents GHK Strathclyde. Both teams had battled hard to get to the final which was played in great spirit.
In a solid first innings Partick overcame a nervy start to post a commanding total of 127 for 7 from their 20 overs. Five of the Partick batsmen achieved double figure scores with Robert Corner (36) and Samual Jakobson (26) the star performers. GHK Strathclyde stuck to their task in the field and promising young paceman Zain Ullah caught the eye with four overs, 2 for 14. He was ably supported by Zahid Mirza with 4 overs 2 for 19, and Mahboob Ahmad with four overs 2 for 31.
The GHK Strathclyde reply never really got off the ground due to some excellent bowling and fielding from the Partick side. In a well-balanced attack the top wicket takers were Graeme Etheridge and Mahavir Singh Dhillon with identical figures of four overs, 3 for 12. Top score in the GHK Strathclyde run chase came from Faraz Shamim with 20.
WDCU would like to thank the CSMOA umpires for the day Majid Haq and Colin McLardie who officiated the game in fine fashion.
Thanks are also due to Paul Coffey for supplying the zinger stumps and the Live stream for the game on Frog Box
Finally thanks to Langside CC for hosting the final in great style and arranging the fine weather.
The final of the Western Cup was held at the Henry Thow Oval on Sunday 31st July where Titwood won a closely fought encounter with Paisley rivals M8 Driving Meikleriggs.
In an exciting game M8 Driving Meikleriggs posted a first innings total of 107 all out in 18.2 overs thanks mainly to a healthy contribution of 57 from Taimoor Ahmad. M8 Meikleriggs would later rue the fact they were bowled out with 10 balls to go. Titwood bowled and fielded well with the pick of their attack being Rohan Dhami with the splendid figures of four overs, 3 for 11. He was well supported by Daniel Cairns who bowled four overs, 2 for 19.
The Titwood reply was steady with consistent partnerships throughout the innings but solid contributions of 29 from Daniel Cairns and 25 not out from Kallum Dhami was enough to see the Titwood side home with a ball to spare. M8 Driving Meiklleriggs bowled and fielded valiantly, but it was not enough to defend their total of 107. Pick of the Ferguslie bowlers were Hasan Mailk with 3.5 overs 2 for 26, and the miserly Taimoor Ahmad bowling four overs, 1 for 7.
WDCU would like to thank CSMOA umpires Paul Hoffman and Duncan Blair for officiating the game splendidly.
Finally thanks to Prestwick CC for hosting the final, and providing the fine seaside weather.
With the semi-finals of these competitions concluded the make-up of all the finals is as follows:
Western Cup – Titwood v M8 Meikleriggs at Henry B Thow Oval on Sunday 31st July, at 1pm.
Greenwood Cup – GHK Strathclyde v Partick at Albert Park on Sunday 7th August, at 1pm
McCulloch Cup – Clydesdale v McCrea FS West of Scotland at Titwood on 21st August, at 1pm
The final of the Rowan Cup was held at Meikleriggs on Wednesday night where 2021 winners Ferguslie won a closely fought encounter with Glasgow rivals Clydesdale.
In a game that fluctuated several times Ferguslie who had posted a first innings total of 137 all out thanks mainly to contributions of 40 from Taimoor Ahmad and 33 from Haroon Tahir held off a spirited challenge from Clydesdale CC who had bowled and fielded well. Pick of the ‘Dale’ attack was Akram Shakhoor with the splendid figures of 4 overs 3 for 21. Special mention should be made of a terrific running catch by Paddy Barbour, the Clydesdale skipper to remove the dangerous David Stafford.
The Clydesdale reply got off to a slow start with Ferguslie claiming two early wickets but a solid partnership between Fazal Jawad (46) and Craig Young (33) looked to be steering Clydesdale to victory. However the introduction to the Ferguslie bowling attack of teenage off spinner Qasim Khan with three timely wickets swung the game in Ferguslies’ favour. A late flourish from Saif Sajjad 22 just failed to carry Clydesdale to victory as the innings concluded at 130 for 8. Other Ferguslie bowlers who impacted the game were Taimoor Ahmad with 3 overs 2 for 18, and the winning skipper Haroon Tahir with 4 overs 2 for 18.
WDCU would like to thank CSMOA umpires Craig MacDonell and Iain McDonald for officiating the game splendidly.
Finally thanks to Ferguslie for hosting the final (and providing the weather), and the WDCU wishes the team good fortune at the National T20 Finals Day to be held at Stirling CC this Sunday.

Hi there,
A relatively short one today. Can I start with the Captains reports please. This will be the last ‘encouragement ‘ note sent to remind all captains to complete their reports in games where CSMOA umpires are appointed. It is really important that we receive these to assist with the umpires performance and identifying training and support needs. I checked ‘Whos the Umpire and a there were only 13 reports from a possible 40. Not good enough. One more week to get it sorted and the penalty points will be re – introduced on the 10th of June.
Please remember that all in season transfer requests ‘must’ be accompanied by a fully completed TR1 Form. As we are now well into the season there needs to be compelling grounds for transfers to be approved by CMC.
The McCulloch Cup Final has now been scheduled and will take place at Titwood on Sunday 21st August with a start time of 1pm. Weather permitting that will be the last of our four Sunday cup finals. We are intending to Live stream all the finals!
We are still making progress with WDCU Live although I would comment that there are a number of results – and a greater number of scorecards – missing from some competitions. In general the Saturday competitions are coming along fine but the Sunday league and the midweek cups are lagging behind. Could you spend some time in catching these up please to maintain the integrity of the competitions. If you need help please ask – George Burns and Paul Coffey are helping me and between us we can probably resolve the issues you have. Please remember we are getting lots of queries so it takes time to resolve them all. A reminder of a few important points
Make sure your team is entered on the system before the match takes place.
When submitting your scorecard you do not need to add in ‘winning points’ the system does that for you
Youdo have to enter the losing bonus points or is in the case of Division 4 the draw points
At the end of the game the team that does not lead the scoring has to confirm the result for it to go live.
Finally – again some relatively good news. At time of writing there has only been one level one charge from the weekend games – so well done again. However there have also been some informal messages received regarding players not showing respect to opponents nor playing in the Spirit of the Game in self umpired games. Could captains please communicate with each other before games with player umpires to agree the standard to be set.
Please remember our clear message for the season:
The message from the WDCU and CSMOA is repeated: ‘Respect your opponents and match officials and play in the Spirit of Cricket.’
Players who do not do so will face sanctions. Clubs who fail to control their players will also face team and whole club sanctions as the WDCU/CSMOA strive to tackle this issue.
