Division 3 – GHK/Strathclyde
Division 4 – Kirkstyle
Premier Reserve League – St. Ninian’s

Mr William Duffy – Honorary Life President, Stenhousemuir CC

Stenhousemuir CC regret to announce the passing of our Honorary Life President Mr William Duffy today. A fixture of the club for several decades he will be sorely missed by all. Our thoughts are with Molly and the family at this time.

WDCU Premier Division Winners, 2019 – Tunnock’s Uddingston

Congratulations to Tunnock’s Uddingston who held their nerve at Titwood on Saturday to clinch the Premier Division title for 2019. They knew a win against Clydesdale CC would snuff out the chance of Prestwick CC sneaking in and pinching the title should they have beaten Ferguslie CC at Henry Thow Oval. In any event victories for both Uddingston and Ferguslie meant the title headed to Bothwell Castle for the first time since 1934! They did so in fine style winning eleven out of twelve games with an excellent percentage of 94.67%.

WDCU Division 1 Champions, 2019 – Croma Vigilant Dumfries

Congratulations to Croma Vigilant Dumfries who have won the WDCU First Division title for 2019. Pictured below are the victorious side who wrapped up the title in fine style at Whitehaugh on Saturday with one week left in the season.

Western Cup, 2019 – winners: Partick

Congratulations to Partick who overcame a spirited effort by the Titwood side in the Western Cup final held at Titwood on Tuesday night. In an exciting game, reduced to sixteen overs aside due to the light, Partick chased down the Clydesdale total of 99 all out in the last over for the loss of five wickets. Highlight of the night for WDCU CMC chair was a moment of fair play from the Partick wicket-keeper who informed the umpires that he had broken the stumps when it had looked like the batsman had been bowled. Terrific sportsmanship in a final!

Thanks to Clydesdale CC for their efforts to stage the final and to umpires Jon Barnes and Richard Young for ensuring that the game ran smoothly.

Club Update – 11 – League organisation and structure

This week’s club update has one topic. League organisation and structure. The WDCU CMC is keen to gather club opinion on the subject and has sent an information note and questionnaire to all clubs to canvas their views on the subject.

Each club is permitted one response and it should be returned to the Administrator by the 31st of August.

The WDCU CMC strongly recommend that clubs consult their playing members prior to submitting their response and would encourage individual players to engage in club discussions.  Please note that this exercise is consultative and not binding.

WDCU Administrator

McCulloch Cup Final, 2019 – winners – Ferguslie CC

Congratulations to Ferguslie who overcame a determined Tunnock’s Uddingston side in last night’s final held at sunny Glenpark. Uddingston posted a competitive 112 for 6 with Ross Lyons top scoring with 28 not out and was well supported by Muhammad Awais with 27. Pick of the Ferguslie bowlers were young Daoud Tahir 2 for 19 and Mohammad Ghaffar with 2 for 23.

A well timed chase by Ferguslie got them home at 113 for 5 in the nineteenth over with veteran Omer Hussain top scoring with 30 not out. He was well supported by contributions from Anup Vejandla (24) and David Stafford (21). Tidy spells of spin bowling from Ross Lyons 1 for 19 and Aamir Gul 1 for 18 were not enough to prevent Ferguslie reaching the winning score.

A big thank you to Greenock CC for hosting the final and for umpires Allan Haggo and Jeff Meeten for ensuring a smoothly run final!
