Given that the midweek cup competitions have experienced a significant number of COVID-19 cancellations the CMC has agreed to alter their formats.  This has been agreed in an attempt to ensure completion of these competitions for season 2021.

As a result the Western and McCulloch Cups have been changed to straight knock-outs and the revised draws are attached for you.  The first round games are scheduled for next week.

Clubs involved in the Western/Rowan Cups and Greenwood Trophy who cannot fulfill two fixtures on Tuesday 8 June, or Thursday 10 June, may use the reserve date of the 17 June to play the Greenwood Trophy fixture. Please let me know if you would like to do so.

The Rowan Cup remains knock-out and also starts next week.  The timetable for the Rowan Cup needs to be flexible so please be prepared if you are successful for future rounds to come thick and fast.  The updated draw for the Rowan Cup is also attached.

All cup draws will be kept up to date in the Document centre on the website. Other website facilities will be used to provide result and draw information where possible.

The revised draws will also be uploaded to the Cricket Stats site before the competitions commence next week.

Hopefully these arrangements will be successful and I would ask you for as much cooperation as you can give to try and get these competitions completed this year.

Please see message sent to all clubs today regarding the COVID-19 situation.

To all clubs,

With the Scottish Government having announced that Glasgow City local authority area remains in Level 3 until at least Friday 4th June, the restrictions continue to affect cricket in our region until then and there will be a further update from the Scottish Government on Wednesday 2nd June. Given this announcement, the CMC have decided the following:

• All midweek matches for week commencing Monday 31st May are, once again, postponed. The CMC still intends to run and complete all of our midweek competitions but will update clubs after the Scottish Government announcement on Wednesday 2nd June.
• All Saturday League fixtures for Saturday 5^th June will remain as scheduled until the outcome of the Scottish Government announcement on Wednesday 2nd June is known. If Glasgow City is moved to Level 2, and all other local authorities in the region remain at the same level in time for the fixtures on Saturday 5th June, then all fixtures will go ahead as scheduled.
• Should it be announced on Wednesday 2nd June that Glasgow will remain in Level 3 for the weekend of 5th June and beyond, that round of fixtures will be declared null and void and will be a third “Covid Round”. As per previous weeks, matches involving clubs outside Glasgow City can go ahead as friendlies and will not count towards league placings, and clubs within Glasgow can organise friendlies against one another but all players and officials must not travel between Glasgow City and other local authority areas or vice versa to take part in any cricket activity while Glasgow City remains under Level 3 restrictions. 
• The CMC will issue a further communication after the Scottish Government announcement on Wednesday 2nd June.

Please note that all the scheduled Sunday league fixtures for the 30th May are considered to be COVID-19 affected and are null and void.  Games can be played on a friendly basis should both clubs and sets of players meet the Scottish Government restrictions currently in place regarding Glasgow City.

• All midweek competitive matches scheduled for week commencing Monday 24^th May will, again, be postponed. The CMC will continue to consider if these fixtures can be rescheduled and/or if the competitions can be amended to ensure completion.
• The Saturday League programme for Saturday 29^th May is declared null and void – even if the two clubs involved are outside of the Glasgow City local authority area. As per the amended 2021 Saturday League Administration Regulations, this will be declared a second ‘Covid Round’ and these fixtures will not be rescheduled.
• As per last week, any fixture which involves two clubs outside of the Glasgow City area can still be played as scheduled but it will not count towards the league placings. There will be no result reported and umpire appointments may also be affected. Clubs involved in fixtures where no team from Glasgow City is participating who wish to go ahead with their fixture should liaise with the opposition club this week to confirm.
• Also as per last week, all fixtures involving a team from outside Glasgow City playing a club from Glasgow City must not go ahead, even on a friendly basis. In addition, clubs are reminded again that any players who live in Glasgow City and play elsewhere or vice versa must not take part in any cricket activity this week that involves them travelling in or out of Glasgow City local authority area.
• Clubs in Glasgow City may arrange friendlies between themselves on the same basis as pre-season but players must not travel from outside of Glasgow City local authority area to take part.
• Should Glasgow City be moved down to Level 2 from week commencing 31^st May, and no other area(s) are moved to Level 3, the league programme will resume as scheduled on Saturday 5^th June.
• Should Glasgow City remain in Level 3 beyond 31^st May, or any other area be placed into Level 3, the CMC will issue further guidance at that time. However, it should be noted by clubs that, due to the ongoing uncertainty and delay to the competitive season, the CMC is now actively considering options to ensure that as many clubs as possible can engage in meaningful matches, should this disruption continue.

The Cricket Scotland website has now been updated with the latest guidance for cricket activity in Level 2 as well as travel for organised sport between Level 2 and Level 3 areas.

The key changes to the Level 2 guidance are:

• Adult and junior club fixtures can take place between two clubs (maximum bubble of 50)
• Indoor cricket is now permitted. Numbers taking part should be based on the venue recommendations for indoor non-contact sport

The additional key requirements for this stage for clubs to consider are:

• Participants aged 17 years or under can travel to and from Level 0, 1, 2 and 3 areas to take part in organised sport, training, and competition.
• Participants aged 18 years or over can travel to and from a Level 0, 1 and 2 area to take part in organised sport, physical activity, training and competition. They should not travel to a Level 3 or 4 area.
• Players travelling to and from the venue should avoid car sharing with people outside their extended household unless necessary.

Important notice to all clubs

As you will be aware, on Friday afternoon, the Scottish Government announced that Glasgow City local authority area will remain at Level 3 COVID-19 restrictions until at least Monday 24 May. As the rest of the local authority areas covered by the WDCU are going to Level 2, this now means that, from Monday 17 May until further notice, no club from Glasgow City can travel to a club outside their local authority area, and no club from outside can travel to Glasgow City to complete a fixture.  In addition, any player or official of a club in Glasgow City who lives outside that local authority area cannot travel to the club and, similarly, any player or official of a club outside of Glasgow City who lives inside that local authority cannot travel to the club. Because of these restrictions, the WDCU CMC have decided the following:

• The midweek cup fixtures scheduled for this week, commencing 17 May, are postponed, even where two competing clubs are not from Glasgow City local authority area. The CMC will consider whether these fixtures can be rearranged for a later date and will communicate this to all clubs as soon as possible.
• The full Saturday League programme for 22 May is declared null and void – even if the two clubs involved are outside of Glasgow City local authority area. As per the amended 2021 Saturday League Administration Regulations, it is declared a “Covid Round” and these fixtures will not be rescheduled.
• Any fixture which involves two clubs outside of the Glasgow City area can still be played as scheduled but it will not count towards the league placings. There will be no result reported and umpire appointments may also be affected. Clubs involved in fixtures where no team from Glasgow City is participating who wish to go ahead with their fixture should liaise with the opposition club this week to confirm.
• All fixtures involving a team from outside Glasgow City playing a club from Glasgow City must not go ahead, even on a friendly basis. • For those clubs involved in Scottish Cup and Challenge Cup matches on Sunday 23 May, Cricket Scotland will be issuing their guidance on this as they administer these competitions.
• Should Glasgow City remain in Level 3 from 24 May, the CMC will issue further guidance at that point.

Please find below an update from the WDCU.

The WDCU EGM was held by Zoom at 6.30pm on Wednesday the 5th of May. I have attached the draft minute of this meeting for your information. This minute will not be approved until our next AGM.

For Premier Division clubs only can I inform you that the proposed pilot of the cricket Scotland Digital Platform has been cancelled as there has not been enough time to share information and complete the necessary training.

As you know the new organisation, Cricket Scotland Match Officials Association, will be responsible for umpire appointments and payment of both match fees and travel expenses. Clubs are still required to pay the match fees and CSMOA will invoice clubs monthly in arrears for actual fees incurred. Please assist them by paying these fees promptly.

The new umpire appointment system will take time to bed in and the pool of available umpires is currently reduced, though that may improve as the season progresses. Also, due to COVID-19, the conditions under which we play have changed so I would ask that clubs do all they can to assist the umpires to ensure the smooth running of games.

For your information both West of Scotland and Hillhead report that there are parking meters on the roads surrounding their grounds. Also the entry to Pollok Country Park may be policed by Glasgow City Council staff who will let players and spectators in when you inform them that you are heading to Shawholm to play or watch cricket.

All league and cup competitions start next week and there are still a small number of fixtures and venues to be confirmed. These will be finalised as soon as possible.

There has been another update to the Saturday League Administration Rules, and it concerns protocols for rain interrupted matches. The detail is also attached with this update.

It is with great sadness that I pass on the news of the passing of Bill Mckaig. A well kent face at all west grounds, and in particular at Glenpark where he was right at home.  He was a real character with a sharp wit and repartee; he will be missed by all his friends and family.
